Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba has claimed one half of her double target in Helsinki, after leading two of her countrywomen to a clean sweep of the 10,000m at the 10th IAAF world championships in Athletics.

Tirunesh Dibaba, who at 19 was the youngest-ever winner when she won the world 5000m in Paris two years ago, won the 10,000m ahead of defending champion Berhane Adere and elder sister Ejegayehu in 30:24.02.

Adere settled for silver medal with a season's best 30:25.41 while Ejegayehu Dibaba took the bronze in 30:26.00.

Kenyan Edith Masai was fifth in a national record time of 30:30.26 and Ethiopian Werknesh Kidane was sixth in 30:32.47.

Despite an inconsistent 2004, Tirunesh Dibaba's came back strongly in 2005 smashing the World 5000m Indoor record in Boston in January and posting an historic short and long-course double at World Cross Country Championships in St-Galmier, France later in March.

Tirunesh will next challenge for the women's 5,000m title which starts on Wednesday evening, August 10, 2005.

But, she has to contend with very strong competition expected from Olympic 5000m champion Meseret Defar, former world recold-holder Berhane Adere, Kenya's Edith Masai and World Junior 5000m sensation Meselech Melkamu who defeated her at the Ethiopian championships.
