A new athletics stadium is underway in the city of Tlemcen, specifically at the tourism centre of Lalla Setti overlooking the city.

The infrastructure, which was approved in the summer, has all the amenities necessary for the training of elite athletes and is of international standards.

It will help with the preparation of 'professional athletes especially in the training of various athletics disciplines more so as the city has over 1600 young athletes which puts it fourth in the nation.

This ambitious project includes a seating gallery of over 2000 seats, a 10-lane track, a grassy area for the javelin throw, weight, etc.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports said over 27 million Algerian dinars has been earmarked for the project which will be completed in late June.

The national junior championship will be the first event to be held after the inauguration of the sports infrastructure.

And in order to create a harmonious atmosphere around the sporting complex, officials said the complex will include an inn with a swimming pool, restaurant, recreation rooms and a cafeteria.
