Ghana's ace long jumper, Ignatius Gaisah boosted his chances of a medal at the forthcoming World Indoor Championship with a season's best jump at the GE Gelan in Stockholm, Sweden.

Gaisah placed fifth with a season's best of 7.83 metres at the IAAF Permit Meeting held in the Swedish capital on Wednesday, February 10.

The 2006 African champion finished behind Viktor Kuznetsov of Ukraine who leaped 8.09 metres followed by Andreiy Makarchev (Ukraine) - 7.96 metres, Morten Jensen (Denmark) - 7.88 metres and Michel Torneus (Sweden) - 7.85 metres in that order.

George Osafo Agyei, Secretary General of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) told GNA Sports that the performance of Gaisah is a major boost to the nation's chances at the impending World Championship billed for Doha, Qatar from March 12 to March 15.

He said the Association is monitoring the performance of the 2006 Commonwealth Gold medalist who has just recovered from a spate of injuries to give him the needed support and encouragement.

Gaisah, who turns 27 on July 20, has been dogged by recurring injuries since participating at the 2007 All Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria. He won gold at the 2006 World Indoor Championship held in Moscow, Russia.
