The President of the Cameroon Athletics Federation, Jacques Sébastien Mbous has disclosed that preparations are well on track for the holding of the 15th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope.

Sebastien Mbous said the misunderstanding that arose following the decision by the athletics federation to modify the race course, has been dissipated in an enlarged meeting with the authorities and population of the South West Region.

They mutually agreed to rescind the decision and reflect on the requirement by the International athletics federation that mountain races should not take place in an attitude above 2,500m.

Mbous said the federation will distribute gifts to youths, lay the foundation stone for the house of Mountain Queen, Sarah Etonge, which the federation have promised to build.

The organisers also have plans for cultural activities, tourism and musical animation in the week running up to the race.

Last year edition, that took place on February 21, 2009 in Buea, was marred by embezzlement, greed and poor organisation.

According to the Up Station Mountain Club blog, "Over 100 athletes, medically checked and found fit for the race, were frustrated as they were barred from participating.

"Officials, who had to ensure the kick off of the race by 7:00 am, came only a few minutes to the start, leaving many, especially expatriates, wondering if the race would take place."
