Oke soars to triple jump best in Sheffield
Nigeria's Tosin Oke won the mens' triple jump event on Day Two of the Aviva World Trials and UK Indoor Championships at the English Institute of Sports (EIS) in Sheffield.
Oke, a guest at the championships, improved his personal best in his 2nd attempt with a leap of 16.76m for victory ahead of Nick Thomas (Newham & Essex) with a leap of 16.22m and World Youth gold medallist Ben Williams (Stoke) with a PB of 15.94m.
However, the 30-year-old Nigerian failed to break Ajayi Agbebaku's 17.00m Indoor African record set in Dallas, United States on February 30, 1982 and also fell short of the qualifying standard (16.95m) for the 13th IAAF World Indoor championships in Doha.
Last month at the Aviva International Match in Glasgow, representing the Commonwealth, Oke confirmed his recent fine form as he took triple jump victory in an indoor personal best of 16.73m, which ranks him equal fourth on the current world rankings.
