Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya

Kenya's Vivian Cheruiyot, reigning world champion in the women's 5,000m, stormed to a World Lead and meet record at the Meeting Areva - Samsung Diamond League meeting at the Stade de France in Paris today.

Cheruiyot finished strongly despite a strong challenge from Ethiopian Sentayehu Ejigu to win in 14 minutes and 27.41 seconds - which is the best performance in the world this year.

Ejigu finished in second place with a personal best time of 14 minutes and 28.39 seconds with Turkey's Elvan Abeylegesse in third with a season's best 14:31.52 and Ethiopian Meselech Melkamu (14:32.73) fourth.

Cheruiyot thus becomes the sole leader of the event on the Samsung Diamond League standings.

Kipruto dazzles

Kenyan Brimin Kiprop Kipruto also  set a meeting record and ran his best time of the year over the 3,000m steeplechase, taking victory in 8 minutes, 00.90 seconds.

Two other Kenyans, Paul Kipsiele Koech, originally the race favourite, (8:02.07) and Ezekiel Kemboi (8:03.79), finished behind him in second and third respectively, both nevertheless running their best times of the season.

Sudan's Abubaker Kaki Khamis wins the men's 800m in 1:43.50 ahead of South Africa's Mbulaeni Mulaudzi (1:44.11) and Poland's Marcin Lewandowski (1:44.40).
