Coca-Cola Nigeria renews support for Obudu International Mountain Race
The Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) has renewed its sponsorship package for the 6th Obudu International Mountain Race and 2nd African Nations Mountain Running Championship in Cross-Rivers State, Nigeria scheduled for Saturday, November 27, 2010.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) chairman, William Archibong, who has been at the helm of organising the race since its inception six years ago, told the media that Coca-Cola has identified with the race right from the very first edition in 2005.
"We are delighted to be having Coca-Cola and NBC as our partner once again," Archibong said.
The company has demonstrated its love for mountain running and we are really pleased they have identified with us as we continue to provide a platform for not only the integration of mountain running into our sports calendar, but also the visibility of the Obudu Ranch Resort, venue of the mountain race as an international tourist haven," he added.
He also said preparations are in top gear for what will be the biggest mountain race so far in the world.
"It will even be bigger than the world mountain running championship because it will be a two- in-one-race, like we had last year; only that this year's will be bigger because we will have the African Nations Championship for women making its debut, come November 27.
"Last year, the men's version made its debut and was run alongside the international mountain race. This year, we are going to have the full compliment of the men and women's events in the African Nations Championships," he said.
The race covers a distance of 11 kilometres uphill to an altitude of 1,575 metres above sea level, taking one to one of the finest tourist destinations in the world, the Obudu Mountain Resort.
The Obudu Race is the highest paying Mountain Race in the world, with star prize of $50,000 for both men and women winners and $20,000 and $9,000 respectively for the second and third-placed finishers.
The star prize for the African Nations Mountain Running Championship is $15,000 for both men and women winning teams, $10,000 for second and $7,500 for third team positions respectively.
