    <title>Chukwuemeka leads Nigerian athletes to Beijing</title>

    <content type="html"><![CDATA[<p>The reigning African Shot Put champion and record-holder <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vivian_Chukwuemeka" target="_blank">Vivian Chukwuemeka</a> will head the Nigerian athletics team to the 2008 summer Olympics Games in Beijing, China.</p>

<p>Chukwuemeka, who holds the African record of 18.43m set in Walnut, California in April 2003, will captain the 33 member team comprising 15 men and 18 women athletes plus 9 officials to the Games.</p>
<p>The 33-year-old told AthleticsAfrica.Com at the team camp in Abuja that her target for the summer is to improve on her African record and in the process break the 19m barrier.</p>
<p>Joining her on the team is the 2008 All Nigerian championships Jackpot and double champion, Damola Osayemi and the national high Jump record-holder, Doreen Amata.</p>
<p>Others in the team are Francisca Idoko, Gloria Kemasuode, Agnes Osazuwa, Halimat Ismaila, Kate Aregunmen (100m/4x100m), Folashade Abugan, Joy Eze, Ajoke Odumosu, and Oluoma Nwoke (400m/4x400m), Blessing Okagbare (long jump) and Chinonye Ohadugba (triple jump).</p>
<p>The 2007 All African Games Champion <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyin_Augustus" target="_blank">Toyin Augustus</a> and Jessica Ohanaja will compete in the women's 100m hurdles</p>
<p>The men's team include the World Indoor 60m champion, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olusoji_Fasuba" target="_blank">Olusoji Fasuba</a>, despite his injury scare at the trials, for the 100m and will be joined by new sensations <a href="http://www.g4s.com/spt/spt-4teen/spt-4teen-meet_the_team/spt-4teen-obinna_metu.htm" target="_blank">Obinna Metu</a> and Adetoyi Durotoye; and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uchenna_Emedolu" target="_blank">Uchenna Emedolu</a> for the 4x100m relays.</p>
<p>The 400m and 4x400m team include: <a href="http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=NGR/athcode=197582/index.html" target="_blank">Godday James</a>, Saul Weipogwa, Bola Lawal, Gbenga Awoleye, Victor Isaiah and Femi Ogunode.</p>
<p>Selim Nurudeen will be the sole entrant in the men's 110m high hurdles.</p>
