The Africa Athletics Confederation (AAC) has released a tentative list of athletes to represent the continent in a match against the USA in the Nigerian capital.

The team will face the American select team at the Abuja national stadium on 12 March.

The test match will follow the inauguration of the Africa Athletics Hall of Fame and reception for the continents’ best athletes of 2004 on 11 March.

Athletes expected at the meet include:

  • Jaysumai Saidy, Gambia's 100m and 200m record holder
  • Bernard Lagat, Olympic 1,500m silver medallist
  • Eliud Kipchoge, World 5000m champion
  • Isabella Ochichi, Olympic 5,000m silver medallist.

Others in the team are Kenyans Edith Masai, Alice Timbilil, Salome Chepchumba Gladys Chepkemei, Timothy Kiptanui, Alex Kipchirchir, Cornelius Chirchir and Isaac Songok.

However, the World Cross Country Championships in France less than a week later, may prevent some top athletes from participating.

Three-time world 4km cross-country champion, Edith Masai and Eliud Kipchoge are already confirmed for the world championship.
