Nigeria top athletics medal table in Maputo All Africa Games 2011

Nigeria was the best country in athletics at 2011 All-African Games in Maputo, Mozambique with 38 medals (17 Golds, 11 Silvers and 10 Bronze medals). 

In second place was Kenya with 26 medals (10 Golds, 7 Silvers and 9 Bronze medals) and third Algeria with 19 medals (7 Golds, 6 Silvers and 6 Bronze medals).

In total 22 countries won various medals in the athletics events that concluded last night at the Zimpeto Stadium.

During last day the most sensational win was by Kenyan in the men's Javelin. Julius Yego improved the national record with 78.34 m. Kenyans also won the 4x400 m in 3:03.10.

Nigeria won three Gold medals. Oludamola Osayomi won the women's 200m (22.86, +1.9), Ajoke Muizat Odumosu in the 400m hurdles (56.26) and the 4x400m relay women's team clocked 3:31.21 to win.

Sudan's Mohamed Younis cleared 2.25m national record to win the men's High Jump, Luvo Manyonga of South Africa won the long jump with a leap of 8.02m (-0.1) and Idrissa Adam of Cameroon won the men's 200m in 20.66 (+1.7) seconds.

Kenya's Caleb Ndiku was the best in the 1500m (3:39.12) ahead of compatriot Collins Cheboi 3:39.72. But in the 5000m, Uganda celebrated as Moses Ndiema Kipsiro won in 13:43.08 ahead of Ethiopian Yenew Alamirew 13:43.33.

In half-marathon Ethiopia ruled. Desisa Lelisa 1:04:31 was the best man and in the women's race, Mare Dibaba clocked 1:10:47 ahead of Mamitu Daska 1:10:52. Irene Jelegat won the 1500m for Kenya in 4:13.67.
